Copper was up a bit over 10 cents a pound and nickel jumped 19 cents a pound. Apparently China is importing metals again. Keep hoarding those pennies,we may see 3 cents apiece again before too long!

Typical price rise after the first of the year. If I have enough copper based scrap by Easter, I will sell it then. If not, I will wait for Easter 2013.

Nickels as well are wise to keep. Debasement of nickels and pennies isn't far away. The coins cost much more to make and distribute than their face value. Also, the dollar coin that basically offset costs is not being minted in large amts anymore.

copper slowly but steadily moving up. Just about at the 2.5 cents/penny now. 3 cents each on the horizon.

The link worked fine for me.

I'm surprised the Canadian government doesn't care about the coin operating businesses. They save the tax payers $16 million, but the coin operating businesses much shell out $40 million to fix their machines.

It's not like the coin operators have to recoup that cost so I don't see the big problem. It's not like just shifting the taxes around or anything so I am not sure what you are gettting at.

I wonder what they will do when scarp steel prices make the new steel coins to expensive? Hey it can happen some day.

When all coins are too expensive,we go to plastic,ie,a cashless society. That is really what the governments want anyway, they just need the scenario to justify it!

I use cash since I don't like using a debit card. I worked in a bank and saw what happened ere stolen/lost and others drained out the $ yes you get it back for the most part but such a mess and once things start over drawing not good. Use cash and that's the easiest
