Are error coins worth anything or just good to say you have one as there seems to be that many errors getting around it's not funny and I've been letting them swim free but if they're worth anything I'll trap them too

I personally don't collect error coins, I like mine as perfect as I can get em But there are heaps uf collectors that ONLY collect errors. They ARE a rarity so they do command a premium over face value, So yes they are worth hanging onto. The largest outlay for an error coin that you find yourself will be $2 or $1, 50cents ect. If they are genuine errors they can be worth quite a lot of money, for example the wavey 2 in the 20 cent. Miss strikes ,die cracks, cuds, mules are al worth a few bob. So hang onto them mate No catch and release here

The only overdate I have put on my wish list is the 1922,21 3d. But some of the newer errors can buy you a fair amount of silver predecimal coins if ya sell em

I have only just started looking at errors the last month or so and have found that some of the rarer errors such as mistrikes and planchet clips do ok whilst others like Cuds and die cracks aren't worth much above face unless they're quite severe. I'm holding onto any errors at the moment but as is being discussed in another active thread I have no doubt in another month I will look back and think why did. keep that?

enwarb the errors have to be prety drastic to make the big bucks. But in the end thats not what coin collecting is about. A lot of collectors love to find errors and activly collect them, Good on them, if thats what they like great. Each to his/her own. Personaly I prefer a perfect coin anyday

I to also prefer a perfect coin but can see how people would get hooked on erros. Theyre very unique and you can own something no one else does.

Collecting errors is actually a compliment that the mints have such high QC standards.

I suppose with error coins you don't really have to worry about the grade of it. I agree with bigfred the QC makes these things pretty hard to acquire

My take on error coins is that anyone can get hold of a perfect version of any circulation coin, especially when you take into consideration the numbers minted. Some of the error coins could be one offs, although I do have multiples of many, I have some that I've only ever seen one of, so their worth to me is quite high. I know I probably would not get much for them, but hey, I don't plan on selling them. I'm actually culling them as I go through them and any that are too prolific are going back in the bucket, mostly 20c so far. Have a look at the Sold items in this ebay search, see for yourself if you can be bothered looking for them. http://www.ebay.com/csc/Coins-/1111...udlo=&_pgn=2
