A couple days ago (spot around $30), I got a call from a guy who had 18 French 50 francs in the 70s. He said they look silver, so I told him to bring them in and did a little research.

Yes, they're 90% and lighter than an ounce. I started explaining this, and the guy with him said "I weighed them, they're an ounce". I didn't have my scale handy, so rather than argue, I moved to the only important thing: how much?

"We called another silver buyer and he said he'd pay $30 each".

End of discussion, I'm not going to try to compete with a retail+ buyer.

I'm sure that they said that just to see if you would match. When you didn't they probably left a little embarassed.

That new show on history shippin wars, they bid down to win loads, not up, lol....

The smart guys with an establish business an big truck will not bid low, as they know they will have hidden expenses and will only bid so low to leave some meat on the bone. But, the new green horn rookie, That kid will bid them down to 800 or 1000, lol and usually loose money. He didn't even have trailor tags an lost like 1800 his last load, via tickets, lol....

Another time he bid 1500 on a chopper, and the guy with the rig bid 2 grand on it, and he won it at 2 grand. The guy who owned the gyro copter would rather pay 500 more an know his item will get their safely, then have the greenhorn bring it for 500 less, and destroy his helicopter, lol. Smart in my estimation....

My point, these guys that do that try an undercut the world don't stay in bus long if they don't quickly ADAPT. But they are a pain for the others around them until they go belly up, lol....

We no longer have a storefront, so I'd try to avoid buying just one. In quantities, prolly around $25.

Because these high buyers either run out of money too fast, or never existed.

There was a thread where a gas station cashier told me he got $11 for silver quarters, but when I tried to get him to say where, all of a sudden he couldn't remember.

Yeah, something like that tends to peg my "baloney" detector too. I would be VERY happy to deliver a few hundred 90% silver quarters to that location for $11 a pop.
