Hi Wade,
Gorgeous coin, congrats!
This is the emperor Diocletian.
Coin struck at Cyzicus Mint.
RIC VI 10a or 12a I think depending on what year it may have been struck
Obv : IMP C C VAL DIOCLETIANVS P F AVG Laureated head right
Rev : GENIO POPV_LI ROMANI Genius standing left, modius on head, naked but for chlamys over left shoulder; right hand holding patera from which liquor flows, cornucopiae in left
Kgamma in exergue
Regards,
-Kurt

thanks, not mine yet :)
in a group with some other more moderns that I was interested in, but this looked "interesting"
can anyone share aprx value? again, I don't follow or collect this era (or anything within 1,000 years!) so wouldn't want to even guess but value would offset the rest of the lot.

The coin is rated as common, but in this condition well centered and nicely struck. I would have no problem paying $30-$40.

Your coin is in very good condition, well centered and struck. One similar but in better condition to this coin sold at auction for $50 a while back. IMHO your coin is worth $35-$50.

I would say the "market" price would be in the $40-$60 US range.
Of course, I like the adage that says a coin is worth what one is willing to pay for it.
Cheers,
-Kurt

Nice coin! The obverse has great details, the reverse has good detail, and the legends are in great shape! Diocletian was interesting emperor. He instituted the "Edict of Maximum Prices" monetary reform in AD 301. It didn't work out very well though.

If I were to name 12 Caesars based on their importance to Roman history rather than their appearance in a surviving literary work (Suetonius), Diocletian would certainly be included. A coin this nice of his is a great start to a collection.
