The janitor in our building sometimes brings coins to me. I tell him if I want to buy them, I will pay him full retail, in my 2012 Whitman Red Book. I assume that is fair. I am not a store with overhead, etc....How often does a coin shop come to you?

i second that! Before and after photos would be fantastic as well. I bought 15-20 silver maples a while back from a non-hobbyist that stored the coins in a dank and humid basement for a number of years. Even though they were still in mint sealed plastic, the coins still badly tainted and covered in grime. So much so I was doubting that they were silver at all. After confirming they were genuine, I paid spot for them, cleaned them up, and gave them back their shine.

The one thing I like about bullion coins is that I can clean them :)

I will pay a good amount beyond spot, and I work at a coin store an can get silver at 75 cents over spot. IF the piece in question is NICE enough an sought after an not easily acquired, most important too me, as not to others. BUT it has to be nice, no micro scratch cleaning from some green horn like myself who first bought rounds an tried to clean. Toothpaste lightly rubbed with most key non abrasion cloth like for cleaning glasses perhaps may not be too bad. Or nicked up from years in a junk drawer or something, bad toning etc.....

No different in the vintage collection game. If you have a nice complete item that is near mint in its nice original box with minimal shelf wear, which is so nice that red flags pop up for fraud possibilities, and it turns out to be real, then I am a buyer at a higher price. BUT, if it is missing parts, bad chrome, played with an not taken care of, well I don't even finish reading the pitch an never look at the item again....

I think that is a fantastic deal War-nickels (gotta be 1942-45 of .295 or 35% silver and look for the key mark over Monticello, lol)you have worked out with the janitor there....

I would post pictures, but I don't know how. I do know how to email them using my wife's iPad 2. If anyone can post them after I email to them I'm game. Just little bit computer illiterate. I haven't bought the right camera which contains software for dummies like me. I don't even know what cut and paste means! Thanks much for all of the advice everybody. I sure do appreciate it.

It's very easily done on this site. Just get your picture, crop it until it is about 85-90k in size, click where you want the pic in your message, and then click on the little green camera icon next to "upload message" at the bottom of the message window. You select the pic that you want to upload on your PC, and then either "OK" or "upload" to send it. You will get a message that says if it was successful or not. If it is, just preview your message to get a look at it in the message. Takes less time to do than to say, especially after you have done it a few times. One tip... don't upload any pics that are buried in multiple sub-dirs on your PC. I usually just put mine onto a USB memory stick and upload them from there... works great.

Good for you Junior. Good things happen to good people, believe me they do. In this world and this commodity there are enough get rich fast people.

I have done things the way I feel is right and I have done very well, maintain a good reputation and often get better profits.

There is a local person that feels it is his right to buy as cheap as he can make as great of profits that he can. In the short term he did well. In the long term most of us avoid him like the plague. Needless to say his fortune has started to decline fast. His reputation followed quickly.

Certainly everyone has a right to buy and sell at any price. But personally I couldn't buy something that I knew was far under priced in the market without letting the seller know. It isn't like an auction where the seller takes his chances for a greater profit.

Exactly so, MK. Fast Buck artists always come out of the gate quickly but they have no finish in the stretch.

One of the premier facets of doing well at business is realizing that you are in business to make money and so are other people. Treat them fairly and you both make money. Get piggish and try to take more than a fair share and you will soon be out of business. I saw this happen both ways many times during my 30+ year stretch in the chemical business. Some folks just naturally got it and some didn't. Those who didn't get it didn't last very long. They were not missed.

I can't see much detail but just by the shine and coloring you can tell that the ASE's cleaned up nicely :)

Thanks poboxw. You are a gentleman and a computer wiz!

I didn't clean the halves obviously.

Also, my photographic skills are poor. All of the Eagles are as shiny as the top row, first coin inside from the left. I'm amazed at how much they gleam.
Sorry, but I neglected to take any shots before I cleaned them.

@junior_e: There's a rather fitting chinese saying that literally reads "mere effort of raising my hands" and means: I don't deserve any praise.

Anyone who ever helps me with anything deserves praise, and is a friend of mine. I gave a kidney to one of my friends, so I take my friendships seriously. I also reward great people whenever possible.

I like Asian culture. Nice and humble saying PO. I'll remember that one.
