I have a guy that wants to sell me some Silver Eagles. He won them on tickets at the VFW back in 1990. These things have just been bouncing around his junk drawer for rwenty two years, and it shows. They are greasy, have knicks all over them, and even smell a little bit like oily nuts and bolts. Of course I am planning to give him melt for them at least. I don't want to screw himout of any money on them, so what would you all pay for Eagles in this condition?

For someone you know, spot is the honest amount.

I'd offer a buck or two less than spot, you are saving him the trouble by selling them anyways.

I agree with the above posters. I wouldn't pay any premium above melt.

I would pay no more than spot. I would probably offer a dollar less than spot as he won't be able to beat that price through any dealer.

I would give him $25 each for um. Everyone here likes to over pay for everything in the name of being honest, but not me. Like you said he has nothing in them so to give him spot especially if they are nicked up makes no sense to me. If you can't make money on something why do it? Unless he knows better which it doesn't sound like he will probably jump at $25 each. Now that I think of it I would start by offering him $20 and go from there.

If you don't like the guy then go ahead and rip him off but I think a far price is spot silver. That would be buying silver at under retail price.

Throwbackid, What amazes me is that you would show your cards like you did with that posting. Integrity is not your strong suit is it. Or should I say "honesty". If I was in need of funds, I hope I would run into someone with compassion and decency, like junior e. Those like you usually get what they deserve. May your Rolex and you have a long life together. You both deserve each other!

Funny Rasta I never see you post much, unless you seem to have something negative to say about another....
Last time I checked Jesus also told the mob he or she who is without sin, step up and toss that first stone. And I certainly would not consider offering someone under spot for an item they know is worth spot, and them know it, and have the FREE WILL to say yes or no, a sin. Esp on those RUINED all but WORTHLESS (short of spot value, whew hoooo!) Eagles....
Fact is, the coins are worth maybe spot at best, so if one buys them at spot, you stand to make zero money. Again, I have no problem buying items for people a bit under spot, and even fine with them knowing we have to have some room to make some money....
If you or that guy in question or anybody wanna make some money over spot, go open up a business, pay the overhead, pay the shipping, CREATE A REPUTATION, then you can make some eh....

Silverhawk74, I have posted many times here. And have not had one thing bad to say about another. It comes down to what is right and what is wrong. What was posted is wrong. Period. If you have no problem with ones concept of doing business no matter what the cost. I thing you should look inward. If this is how CCF has come to, "screw them at what ever cost". Just so I can make a few percentage points. Well what have we become. Ask yourself this question. PS "Create a Reputation" if that is the reputation you are looking build off of using that as a business statement. Well I will pass!

Again, does a Pawn shop buy items at full retail price, no. If they did, how long would they be in business? Look at it from his point of view, as someone in a similar position....
Keep in mind, I am the guy that will give a poor guy 10 or 20 bucks an not think a thing about it, as my friend may say.... "You fool you got scammed, he is not hungry, he is gonna go get drugs!"
And I say yeah so, maybe he needed something to make him feel better, and that is between him an God, the deception toward me. I did the right thing an tried to help someone out who was down on their luck, with no plans to get it back. Like give them my address for goodness sake. Just good karma, so I can sleep fine at night, and if I drop dead in the next 30 seconds, I can say bring it God, come with the judgement, I will stand up an answer for it all with a clear conscious, lol....
If he does not know better, again his mistake for not informing himself in this easy accessed information world. Anybody with 45 IQ points to rub together can figure out how to use google. Again, I am saying I would tell them up front, ME PERSONALLY, that the spot value is what it is, and I will offer you this, take it or leave it, I or no one has a gun to your head....
I would not want them for spot, and I would not want them for five under, or even ten under, as the visual factor of silver means that much to me. I would much rather put that 20 bucks together with 30 more an get a nice Britannia or something, but again that is just me....
And sorry Rasta, perhaps I honestly confused you with another, as I get names an icons of members mixed up often. And until you took the time to get to know Kyle face to face, I wouldn't pass judgement so fast. Could he have worded it a bit nicer perhaps, but sometimes we all just take these blurt out thoughts way to serious, me for sure and that is just silly in the end.....

There was a story here on this PM thread about a great buy one of the members here made. It had to do about an elderly women who was in need of some funds, so she heard that her neighbor was into coins. She asked this person over to see if he would be interested in what she had for sale. The neighbor walked in to the home, to find some twenty to twenty-five pristine Morgan dollars on the kitchen table. The neighbor asked what she wanted for the coins. Her reply was "would $15 each be to much". The neighbor replied "they are worth more than that, would say $28 each be all right". At the time that offer was two dollars below spot. Point being the buyer had the wear with all to know that it is better to due the right thing, and go home and get a good nights sleep. You want to quote the bible, try this. "Due on to others as you would have them do on to you". Or this "an honest mans pillow is his piece of mind". How would you like your grandmother treated. "Sorry grandma, you didn't know what it was worth. I am going to relieve you of these things for say %61 of what they are worth. If this was to happen to a member of your family you be over to visit that neighbor to get what is fair. Thank god, there are still descent people in this world.
