The uniformly illuminated photos make it difficult to grade them, any chance of shots with indirect bright lights?

Sunlight won't do, try a desk lamp without anything around the bulb.

I think the better photos will show much more lustre. You can sort of see it. The decent nick on the kings cheek on the 1951 definitely prevents it from getting Gem or Choice IMO.
I cant see any wear on the 1943 and if some nice lustre is there I can see it being UNC.
Better pics will tell the story.

both aunc to me, but I try to judge from the coin at its original size and no magnification, as the books say to do.

I agree with enworb the 1951 florin isn't GEM mainly due to the mark on the kings jaw line and the definition of GEM as a grade is that the coin will be almost fautless with a strong ,but not neccesarily perfect strike. The design of may show just a hint of die-wear but such wear should be minimal. Detracting marks are of a highly insignificant nature. Although the 1943 looks beutiful and I would place it at aUNC to UNC+ otherwise they look fantastic:) just curious but are you assembling a florin collection?:)

Are they from Klaus Ford? They look like his style (packing/casing etc).

Ive looked at the 1951 a few times now and it is really nice. That nick on the cheek is a bother but I can see it at UNC and going out on a limb maybe the better side of UNC. I'm thinking aUNC for the 1943.

OK so given that these are sold and graded by the author of the Australian grading standard and trout has stated that they are over-graded I'd love to hear what he's got to say about the quality of Australian grading or the quality of his own grading from images?
