My darling bride and I have just spent our 25th anniversary down in Virginia visiting Jamestown and Yorktown. Most of you probably know, but they have been preparing over the last few years to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the landing at James Island and the founding of Jamestown in 1607. If you ever have the chance to visit it is amazing. I listed the coins that they have on display and will post what they are when I unpack. To go to Jamestown and not visit Yorktown would be ashame as they are just scant miles apart. After seeing this town it seemed very poetic that these two sights are literally next to each other. What a unique little community Yorktown is having the dubious privilege of hosting battles for both the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. One more piece of history before we get to the give away. I found it ironic that Robert E. Lee married George Washington's great grand daughter, Mary.

Now for the give away. I took my change and generated a hand full of flattened cents with a depiction of the founding at the gift shop in Jamestown and have seven left. If you would like one, e-mail me with your address and I will send you one free of charge. The first seven to respond will be the winners, naturally. I have one request. I would really like these to go to people that will not have the chance more than likely to visit these locations personally.
Best of luck, Jim

While I would love one of these, living on the East Coast gives me the opportunity to get some of these.

If by some chance there is not enough interest (which I don't think will be a problem), keep me in mind. I personally would much rather have these go around the world or to the west coast as well.

Very generous of you to offer BTW.

Under normal circumstances, we have a Giveaway Forum for these things, but I doubt these will last long enough for a thread in that forum. Very nice of you, Jim, and here it stays. I will not participate, being only a state away from there.
Rest in Peace

Very nice of you.

The New England area is one we have barely seen, and that was a brief trip to New York City in 1999.

NE is a place we hope to go in the fall one of these years. We would love to see Massachusetts, Niagra Falls, and Nova Scotia, just to name a few places.

Hopefully, one of these days!!

Well I don't see this Hoosier anywhere near either city so adding an elongated cent to my small elongated collection would be great!

A penny is placed into a machine that flattens the penny while imprinting a design onto it.

Email sent.
I was so looking forward to pieces struck by the Gallery Mint Museum for this event, but things over at the mint in Eureka Springs took a different turn.
An elongate would be a wonderful replacement souvenir for this historic commemoration.
Thanx and congrats on the milestone anniversary!

What a very kind offer. If there is one left I would be happy to give it a home in Montana. It is a loong way from any revolutionary war thing or Civil war battlefield.

Rob, You are right. Montana is a long way from Civil War battlefields.

However, maybe not as far away as you might think. A very important battle was fought at La Glorieta Pass in northern New Mexico, just across the Colorado border!

Gary,

Timing is everything. There are a lot of folks that come here just to take a drive up through the mountains for the foliage change. I honestly have not been monitoring it the last few years as to when you would see the most brilliant colors. While the leaves typically change for a good long period, the brightest colors can be short lived due to little or excessive rainfall throughout the year. The temperature and rainfall in Autumn usually constitutes when the leaves will change. If we have a warm September with rain, the leaves will still be green in early October. It's hard to tell, and doubly hard to make travel arrangements too far in advance.

Sorry Jim. Not trying to hijack the thread.
