1811 $5 Gold From Heritage...major Die Clash

g048406 Pillar of the Community 861 Posts	Posted 01/14/2013 9:55 pm So my friend tells me he bought this 1811 $5 XF details-tooled from the Heritage FUN Auction: http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...090&x=23&y=8 I had previous looked, and passed as I thought someone had etched an 18 above the date.....He than had me re-look at the front=blown-up......WOW. I can clearly see most of "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and the entire ribbon from the reverse inverted above the date. I can see the letter "L"above the bust, the letters "UN" and "US" above the date. I have seen some Bust Cents with minor ~~strike throughs~~ CLASHES like this, but, I have never seen a $5 Bust with this......any opinions? Quote: Occurs when a foreign object lies on top of the planchet and leaves an impression of itself when struck into the coin.
