So my friend tells me he bought this 1811 $5 XF details-tooled from the Heritage FUN Auction:

I had previous looked, and passed as I thought someone had etched an 18 above the date.....He than had me re-look at the front=blown-up......WOW. I can clearly see most of "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and the entire ribbon from the reverse inverted above the date. I can see the letter "L"above the bust, the letters "UN" and "US" above the date. I have seen some Bust Cents with minor strike throughs CLASHES like this, but, I have never seen a $5 Bust with this......any opinions?

Looks like a nice die clash to me. Too bad it's cleaned and tooled. Poor coin.

I believe this is a die clash. Here's a definition of "strike-through."

Actually, according to his conversation with the guy he just sold the coin to, it is apparently a majpr die clash. I think I would have held on to the coin, but, a profit is a profit.

Check out the rare swirl marks on the obverse. Could be worth upwards of 1 MIL
