1947 Roosevelt Dime With A B Stamped In It?

msdg137 New Member United States 3 Posts	Posted 01/23/2013 1:44 pm I have a 1947 Roosevelt dime I found circulating years ago and always wondered where the B stamped in it may have came from. To me it almost looks like the B from liberty that may have been from a larger coin but the stamp is indented rather than a relief. Perhaps a coin from a new die marked for quality control that may have made it out the door. Not sure but I welcome any input. Report this Post to the Staff

biokemist6 Bedrock of the Community United States 12437 Posts	Posted 01/23/2013 1:55 pm You have what is known as a "counterstamped coin" and you may notice a corresponding flat spot on the reverse from the punch. It was done post-mint and only the person that did it could tell you why it was done. Report this Post to the Staff
