Has anyone noticed the rise in precious metals today. I was surprised to see gold inching toward $700.00 and even more surprised to see platinum at $1,324.00. Does anyone know why there have been huge increases lately?

Gold $691.6 + $7.30

Silver $13.91 + $0.25

Platinum $1,324.00 + $26.00

Oil rising and the US dollar falling are good for metals. If you want to buy some .1 oz eagles under spot call Morgan Mint. I saw an ad in Parade Sunday for a .1 oz eagle for 49.00 = 10.00 shipping. That coin should be in the 69.00 range right now. There is a 1 coin per order limit so I bought one under my name and one under my wife's name (That modern lack of taking the husband's name comes in handy sometimes). Watch out as they will try to sell you larger gold coins but theyare not worth the price only the .1 oz $5 eagle advertised is. The number is 1 800 414 1198. they will ask for a Dept number which is GC119. It is on page 10 if they ask. Take advantage of it as it is like getting gold for 590.00 an ounce. They said it will take 3-4 weeks to arrive. I am keeping my ad just in case there is a problem.

It's just another sign that USD is weakening awfully. Ask the Europeans if they find the price of gold in Euros or British pound have risen dramatically. I don't think so.

The thing is, precious metals are expensive because WE want better living standard. If you combine all the electronics that you purchased throughout your life, perhaps if everyone combined their trash, there will be a fair amount of them recycled. To add to the fact that recycling precious metals from electronics boards, etc are so far too costly to do anything about them.

Notice how much metals are used for industries.

The Big News was that the British pound reached the mark two dollars for one pound
In euro the price of gold the last year is as exciting as watching paint dry
Attached my private chart in euro london close
I do not think the price of gold is going down in dollars in the future
Edited because chart did not show

I'm still kicking myself for not buying in 1999 when gold was 252 $USD.

If you think silver and gold are doing so great, try and price stock in copper or nickel at todays prices. Man, they have blown the lid off of the stock market and the price keeps going up.
They are blaming both China and India for this reaction.

It's also why the cent and nickel can't be manufactured today without being worth more than the coin says it is.
the nickel of today has almost 15¢ in material to only 5¢ face value. they have now made it illegal to melt and sell the metal. Wonder why?

No, just the opposite. Metals--both precious and base--are appreciating because demand is high. The same for oil and many other commodities.

India and China have seen their economies grow at substantial (and probably unsustainable) rates and as a result there are a lot more buyers--pushing up prices.

This is not "bad" inflation (where prices go up because supply is scarce); it is "good" inflation (where prices rise because more wealth is chasing supply that can't keep up).

Yes the metals are rising.

Why US dollar is low compared to other currency?

The dollar should also be up their for they have bulk of golds.

Or because of deficit, debt, and purchased of oil?

Cannot really understand either there is good things happenng in the US or their is bad thngs not sure what.
