I just bought this on ebay, but I'm having seconds thoughts. Does this look cleaned to you guys? Any helpful comments would greatly be appreciated, thank you.

With the fields clear and smudges between the letters, I think it has been cleaned at some point. Possibly dipped.

How much do you think this coin is worth? I just hope I didn't buy a cleaned coin for too much. How much is the most you would have bought this coin for?

Ok, that makes me feel a bit better. Mine was $11.55 with free shipping. Hopefully it looks good when I get it.

It is hard to get a coin that old that hadn't been cleaned at one time or another since 80% have been cleaned. It is also difficult to detect cleaning because some characteristics of cleaned coins can also occur in other ways. I think you did good on the price. I sold one for about that price on ebay that was about the same.

it looked cleaned. Probably worth around 10-12$, so you did fine.

I would like to point out what I feel is unusual (in a good way) about the coin you bought. I do not see any signs of clashing or Longacre doubling on it. Most of the 1865 3cns I have seen have at minimum one or the other and most of my early 3 cns have both.

I wonder if this was an early strike from the dies. I hope prethen takes a peek here.

(PS I think you did fine for the price you paid )

The disparity between the main fields being very clear & shiny and the dirt around the design edging makes me think it was cleaned.

In my opinion, the fact that you have such a nice looking coin anyway is the benefit cleaned or not! I think you got a good deal on this one. I'm going to a local show in a week in the hopes of picking up the 1, 2, 3 cent collection. I hope what I find is as nice as what you purchased!

Thank you all for the kind words . I bet my buyer's remorse will go away after I receive the coin.

Many would pay that price. If you listed the coin on ebay for that price it would sell within a week.

I'm leaning to "dipped" too. However, you got the ebay first timer thing over with. It's a nice coin than you didn't break the bank to buy. Last, you learned a lot about the process.

My first ebay purchase was an IH that must have been polished. It looked like shinny brass, about 1/2 normal thickness, and the date and the Indian were only visible when you turned the coin a certain way. But, I learned a lot, ya know? So enjoy!!

Like everyone else said, I think it was cleaned too. But also, you liked it enough to buy it so that's the key. I would have bought it too, and at that price you did good.
