I'm curious to know, it's been three months since the release of the president dollars... Are the President Dollar coins circulating in your area of the country? What part of the country do you live in and how many have you seen being used circulation? Have the Sacagawea dollar started to be used more because of the president dollars? If so, post where you live and how many you've seen. Also post if there are none circulating in your area.

toast, I'm in New York and I have yet to see any, unless I ask merchants in the neighborhood for Washington dollar coins (well...I would have to say 'golden' or 'dollar' coins. Most don't know who or what 'Washington' is). As for the newest (John Adams) none.

Mocksville NC There are quite a few circulating here, in my store ,of course, but also in a lot of other stores, Walmart,Walgreen, and Foodlion. I was at the bank yesterday and the tellers were telling everyone that the new John Adams were in and asking how many they wanted. Madspec

I haven't seen any circulating. I have three rolls of the Washington dollar, I opened one and gave 10 or so coins away. I'm going to spend the rest, do my part in circulating them. Most of my transactions are of the plastic variety so it's going to require some effort.

I am also in New York and I've never received a Washington in change, although I have spent quite a few. In post offices here, dollar coins are given in change from stamp vending machines, but I haven't used one of those in a while, so I don't know, but that seems to me to be the most likely place to find them. Again: What were they thinking? P.S., I got regular mint bank rolls of Washingtons from my bank (Commerce), which I didn't even know existed till I read it here. The rolls are marked "Washington" and I haven't opened them yet, but I expect they're all P mint coins because we live on the east coast and rarely see branch mint coins here. But, I could be wrong. I intend on going to the bank this afternoon to ask for the John Adams's.

In Nebraska and Tennessee sadly the only ones I have seen are the ones I pay with.

I purchased $100 worth and put them into circulation, primarily to watch reactions. Except for these, I have seen none. Unless circulation means from the bank into collection storage. Jim

No.
I ask everytime I buy something if they have any in the register. I've only had three cashiers even know what I'm talking about.

I haven't fired anyone up recently so lets give it a try. Unless the Govt. takes a page out of Australia's book (and others) and does away with the paper dollar, $1 coins are not ever going to catch on. The SBA and Sac should have been enough proof. As a side note, I gave a few of these to my nephews, 14 & 16 yrs old, and found them in the quarter jar when I went thru them with the oldest nephew recently. For my bad eyes, they have to make them more decernable. It will probably be worse when the gold toning wears off. Jim

I totally agree with Jim1953 about the elimination of the dollar bill as a prerequisite for dollar coins to circulate. What I find incomprehensible is that Congress, in the Act that authorized the Presidential dollar series, also mandates that Sacs continued to be minted alongside the Pres' dollars, I think in the same quantities. So they're shooting themselves in the foot twice instead of just once. And that's just this year. As an aside, the Coin World article where I got the above information indicated that the Mint would place no special preference for any style and that banks would get a mixed rolls (Sacs and Pres's), but my bank, as I said, had wrapped rolls containing exclusively (Washington) Pres dollars - the rolls are wrapped by that company in PA (I'm at work so I don't have the rolls right in front of me - the company that wraps most if not all bank rolls from the mint) and marked with the President's name whose image appears on the coins.

Nope, haven't gotten a single one from a store. I'm in Tampa, Florida.
I did, however, get one from my coin dealer at the flea market. He was short one dollar bills and decided to give me a Washington instead.
