Probably PMD, no added value :(

[I'm not an expert but before jumping ship to ancients I looked through a couple thousand of my grandad's Buffalo nickels]

Here's a good online resource for buffs. The page I linked to is the date-by-date section which I found very helpful. http://blog.davidlawrence.com/index...ate-by-date/

Looks like damage to me compared with a normal buffalo profile.

Could be a pretty strong clash.
Also see some polishing lines below
the nose etc.
Looks close to the hind legs on the reverse.

Here is a clash overlay.

While it is close with the leg, A clash would not affect devices that deep. Only the files would be affected. Still Machine Doubling to me. Flat, shelf like. Or damage. Either way it is a damaged coin. What ever did this might have a job as a plastic surgeon. Perfect profile now. LOL

So, might be the startings of a hobo nickel? Maybe someone started into it, then needed a can o beans (or summat) and spent the coin back in the day.

Drriver_1, looking fwd to pics when you get back, of the reverse

I'm leaning towards it being a lamination.

You know to me it looks like someone was re-shaping his nose all together. Look at how straight the bridge of it is compared to a regular buffalo. Just scrolling up and down and looking at the two you can see that what looks like damage or an the supposed error could really just be the outside line of what his nose is supposed to be like. Can anyone do up a quick overlay? I'm at work and have no such ability.
