1903-O Barber Half (raw coin) M 2.10m / R2 Yet another one for the wholesome short set.. This one looks right on the edge of VG10/F12 to me. What say you o' CCF wise ones? Opinions appreciated, Thanks! (Sample photograde for ballparking..) Edited by Night-Hawk 12/23/2013 12:04 pm

I think it is F15 myself, the ear area and ribbon on reverse look like the VF20 photograde so it may be higher. But I think F15 is a fair grade :)

Not quite enough meat on those thighs or wingtips, though the toning gives nice contrast, Id like to see a little more detail on the wreath and eye for a Fine grade.
I'm going with VG10 myself..

Have to agree with VG10. Just a little bit too much wear for F.

Night-Hawk, I think you nailed the grade. Judging just by LIBERTY this is a VG-10. Notice how all seven letters are visible on the F-12. Very nice color. An honest coin.

Must agree with the VG-10, "Liberty" is the key for the grade.

The exception are coins from New Orleans. But even then other areas can help establish the grade. VG-8 and VG-10 examples of Halves are the sweet spot for looks vs. price. Fine-12 halves are expensive and not easily found.

I can get on board VG-10. Not quite enough letters in liberty for a fine but the laurel leaves look stronger than on a VG-8.
