British Trade dollars were minted in the mid 1890's, think about 1896 start date and ended in 1930, with a break in 1926 to 1929 none were minted...Its definately the border of that coin on your coin.

I'm not sure of the half's outer dimention and if the British Trade dollars interior be cut out and then the half slipped into it and then cast...your pic shows quite the build up around the halve's outer edge with quite the noticiable crud build up there I have some British pieces let me see.......They started in 1895 to 1904 with a break until the 1907 piece and ran up to 1913, then stopped until 1921 stopped until 1925, then back minting in 1929/30, stopped again then minted its last 2 years in 1934/1935...... Outside measurements are about 39MM so "CUT" the 30.5/31mm center out would leave the borders intact......not sure how big the half is and if it would fit.....I Interesting coin but fake...

Quote:I think someonemay have struck an 1811 half dollar on a blank British Trade dollar. but I don't know anything about these things... when would be my next question. It's the wrong weight to have been based on anything "real." As aladinslamp mentions, the Great Britain Trade dollar was 39mm and 26.95g. This is probably a contemporary fake, created in one of the countries in which Trade coinage from various countries were designed to circulate - the Orient and Middle East. It was never intended to be handled by a native of the issuing countries; only by those who wouldn't necessarily know what such a coin was intended to look like. The size relationship seems roughly appropriate - a Bust Half fits into a Trade dollar with about 3mm all around. It appears to have been modeled on a "real" 1811 Bust Half, the Large 8 O-104 variety whose date numeral relationships, star positions, and high second S in STATES and 50C on the reverse all are quite similar to the "coin" pictured here. I even think I see (wishful thinking) vestiges of the die crack above the 1 in the date found on O-104 in the appropriate place. Quite the fascinating piece, actually.

This isn't even a good counterfeit, it's just a fantasy. They stuck a CBH design in the middle of a British Trade dollar as the others have mentioned.
