Best coin I have had the opportunity to purchase locally since recharging my interest in coins several years ago. Paid AU-50 money for this.. very curious as to what grade the community would give it. Photos are not the best but the best I can do with the limited set-up I have. It's lovely in hand, with mild orange and grey toning plus strong bluish highlights and a lot of luster and color shift when rotated under natural light. It has a noticeable rim dent below the 'ONE' on the reverse which does not show on the obverse. Have at it, folks. And thanks for looking. -msy

Beautiful! I'd say Au55. Likely had an old light cleaning/dip, but would probably still slab. I like it! Kind of reminds me of my type example, though mine has definitely been cleaned.

I don't see anything keeping this one from AU55. Nicely done, probably a $1k coin in a PCGS slab.

AU-53. Not sure about the surfaces but the TPGs seem to let a lot of minor problems slide when grading Seated dollars.

I believe I saw this coin in-hand shortly before the OP bought it on Friday. For the price the dealer was asking, I passed, as I thought it was mid-range AU with an old cleaning and wasn't sure it would slab problem-free. It lacks cartwheel luster, which was the big thing that pushed me off. I don't have much experience with seated material so I was hesitant to pull the trigger on such an expensive piece.
Looking at the pics on my phone, I'm 100% positive this is the same coin.

I think the quick pictures I took on the delaers felt actually show the coins true in-hand look better than the OP's... no offense intended.

From some of the research I have done lately(which is not extensive), it seems that many AU Seated dollars in TPG slabs do not really have cartwheel luster, especially on the obverse. Luster is very important to me too, but I think this is one of those coins you have to fork out big bucks for substantial cartwheel luster. Also, many in slabs have been lightly cleaned, TPGs are very forgiving on this type. Even from your pics, chasingtailbar, I am still sticking to my AU55 problem free estimate, or at least a 53. Also, I am sure this is what it looked like in hand to you chasingtailbar, but toners like this vary a lot depending on the lighting, so I would not dismiss the OPs representation as to what it looks like in hand based on the type of lighting he was in.

Thanks everyone for the comments. And the favorable grade opinions. I'll stand by my photos compared to those phone snaps as to what the coin *actually* looks like up close. Never would have pulled the trigger on what was pretty much an impulse purchase, if all I'd had to go on were those flat colorless shots. I'm not experienced enough to be able to determine facts or fancy regarding 'old cleaning' but I do have a good eye for subtle shades of toning. Coin is not likely to see the inside of a plastic slab as long as I own it. I think you folks are probably as accurate as any TPG. And since SsDd has rated it the highest of the lot of ya, it might be time to host a toast to the one(s) who let it get away ;-) All in good fun, of course. No hard feelings anywhere please. It is a small world. And there is *always* another coin to buy. -msy

redacted. Not in the business of outing how much people paid for stuff.

Quote: you appear to be a collector focused on buying nice coins. Eggs-ackley I like big silver and I don't buy to flip. It was 'more than I wanted to spend' but I liked the coin, had enough time to do some basic research, and if consensus sez I overpaid, it won't be the first time. Or the last since I like to buy at public sales and those bidding battles can get downright nasty.

I've bought plenty of Morgans from him over the years and have done quite well, kept most of them too. He's a good guy and always cuts me good deals.
Deleted my last post because I figure its poor form to out what somebody may have paid for something publicly.
