Hello. Here is my newest purchase. "At hand" coin looks awesome, but unfortunately, some things just isn't right, in my opinion. Color is chocolate brown and looks very natural, but... When I am looking at coin from different angle, color is changing and now it didn't look so natural. My first thought it was polishing, but maybe the coin was laquered? It looks like there is some "layer" and it is nice visible "at hand". Maybe bath in acetone will give me answer?
One more thing - please tell me something about weakness of "6" in date and top right corner of the shield. It is strike weakness or maybe some kind of damage? Thank you for your help and grade opinions.

The film looks like it may be finger oils or something of the sort. The colors you see are the result of thin film interference, I think. There is a nice wikipedia article on it if you are not familiar with the term. But I don't like the way there is dirt/verdigris around all the devices and the fields are clear. Seems fishy to me.

The weakness in the 6 is probably the result of grease in the die.

Looks cleaned, IMO. The face and devices seem a bit too shiny.

Looks like it may have had a light buffing at some point the 6 and the last couple letters in AMERICA looks like they were grease filled.

Still a very nice coin IMO..
Rest in Peace

Looks lacquered to me.
Why the 3rd picture?

It will remove the lacquer. I believe.
Nice coin. Rim nicks at 11 and 12
Looks off center to me, obverse.
Lets see what the CCF members think.

I'm no expert on copper, but as mentioned by another poster, it looks conditioned/filmed with oil. This is done all the time to eliminate a dry and flat look some copper gets when it's been sitting for a long time. It can easily be removed. The tone of the coin under the shine looks right to my eye and would be difficult to replicate such a genuine look IMO. I'm sure there are people out there that disagree, and it probably can be done, but retoned copper seems to stand out to me. This one doesn't appear re-toned. If it is, they did a good enough job, I would be ok with it. Problem free is always the question. I try to buy only coins that are problem free. With that being said, I would buy this coin for a fair price.
