Ugh, it kills my heart when I see such a badly damaged Lincoln.

I see deep scratches all over the date area. Someone must have scratched it out, leaving nothing but marks of bad abuse in the date area.
Also, it looks like someone tried to hole it, too.

You could try nick-a-dating it. Nick a date works on copper too. I'm not sure if it has the same overall effect though.

The area where the date should be looks altered, but I can't tell how from the image.
