This is probably "small potatoes" for most of you, with 1909-S VDBs, 1922 Plains, 1914-Ds, 1955 DD, 16-d Mercurys, 3 -Legged Buffalos, etc. But I just bought My Most Expensive Coin (so far) - 1909-S Lincoln - for $110. I think it's F to VF:

Nice! I like the wood grain look some of the Lincolns get. Congratulations!

No VDB. No matter how hard I tried to wish a VDB on there, it didn't work.
Sorry for the chopped picture. I used my QX5 & it doesn't capture the whole coin.

Congratulations! Lincolns are a solid buy right now. Since I've subscribed to gray sheet every issue so far has had Lincolns in the pluses, meaning they've gone up. Your 1909 celebrates the 100th birthday of Abraham Lincoln. In 2009 old Abe turns 200 :)
To be honest I would say yours is more like a VG. But I'm not an expert grader, others might have a different opinion.

Congradulations. You have to start somewhere and that is truly a decent start. You'll never loose out on Lincoln Cents. Many coins over the years have gone up or stayed the same but those Lincoln Cents always go up. I think it has something to do with they don't make the old ones anymore. I go to many coin shows and the one big seller is always Lincoln Cents. Always remember that almost everyone on Earth save those things so what ever you paid today is not something you'll see tomorrow. Soon enough you'll be posting you have a complete set.

Actually it looks more to me like your mintmark is added and the coin isn't really a 1909S cent. If you get closer to the mintmark and reimage it, I would be able to tell one way or the other for sure.

I still believe that it is good and the S over Horizontal S variety. It is listed in Coin World's Coin Values as a variety.
