I had some pics of my new 1909-S Lincoln, purchased last week, posted in another thread. There was some discussion of it being a RPM: 1909S-1MM-002 (RPM#002)FS#1c-012.3 known as RPM#2 (S over horizontal S)

Actually it looks more to me like your mintmark is added and the coin isn't really a 1909S cent. If you get closer to the mintmark and reimage it, I would be able to tell one way or the other for sure.

I'm re-posting the pics. I've read in David W. Lange's book on Lincoln Cents that 1909 Lincoln Cents had been one of the targetted coins for producing fakes by adding an S mintmark to a common 1909 Lincoln.
Does this look authentic or fake?

I believe that the S has been added. Look at the top serif how flat and oversized it is. There is extra metal at 3:00 and 1:00 around the MM.

I have no expertise, but that won't stop me:

I think it looks OK. The color and texture of the S matches the coin well, and the background gray color around the S matches the color around the edges of the numbers.

The fatter portion can be from wear. Looking at other circulated Lincolns that are well worn, the mint mark often looks fatter, like it was smashed in in a little.

Real, beyond a shadow of a doubt. It is the S/S horizontal, which doesn't add much value, but nobody who adds mintmarks bothers turning them into perfect replicas of repunched mintmarks.

The statement above was mine regarding it being a possible fake. From the distance of the first photo it didn't look right. The shape seemed off. From the closer images, it is real without a single doubt.

I would think it's real and not that I'm an expert, but I feel not many would take the time to make a fake S on such a badly worn coin. Of course crooks are not necessarily brain surgeons, but to waste time to make that into an S would really have to be done by someome with a lot of time.

First of all I have no idea if the coin is fake or not.
But you have to know that in countries in the east of Europe wages are extremely low, 1 or 2 euro an hour - that is if you have a job. There are very skilled craftsmen.
So even if you spend a whole day on adding a mint mark (or other signs) on an almost worthless coin which you can sell for 50 euro or more that makes a nice earning in those regions.
Again, this is no statement about this coin but a general reflection that the relation between time and money is not everywhere the same.

It is good-- a nice example of a scarce variety!
Check out CherryPickers Guide.
I hope that you kept it.
