sel_69l Bedrock of the Community Australia 21788 Posts	Posted 10/19/2014 02:10 am I picked up a U.S. gold dollar in about MS62 for $3, at a Manchester coin show (U.K.), but that was decades ago. Got a barely identifiable and heavily encrusted Egyptian silver tetradrachm for $15, of Ptolemy X11 (55 - 51BC) in VF condition from a dealer's junk box. Had it cleaned in a weak acid, and it cleaned up like a treat! About the only coin I have ever had cleaned. I got lucky, but that is what this thread is about! Report this Post to the Staff

acloco Pillar of the Community United States 3540 Posts	Posted 10/19/2014 7:00 pm 1877 IHC in the coin dealer junk bin - 15 cents. Took it back, they said, they could not tell for sure. Granted, grade would be AG3 and more than likely FR, but it was still an 1877! Traded it for 90% U.S. silver coinage, waited several months, and turned that silver into the 1914 D and 1911 S Lincoln cents that are still in my collection to this day.
