Interesting. The other 7/7 come with clearly repunched 188 as well.

It looks something like RP-3, but that comes to a point. See Charlton 2010 pages 329-330.

this is the example given by Charlton. Although yours appears weaker it seems to fit the example.

I have similar examples on 1859 pennies, which are die clashes of the underneath of the queen's jaw. Could your 1877 be from a similar occurrance?
