OK, so I have been collecting Wheat Cents since I got back into coin collecting a few years ago. I have no Memorial Cents except for what I have in pocket change. I think these will be my next coins to collect. It seems there are a lot of BU full sets in tubes available on ebay for around $25. Any other suggestions? I'm not in a big hurry, but it seems like it wouldn't take that much to get caught up on Memorials... Any suggestions would be appreciated!

IMHO, if your into CRH simply take any acceptable coins out of the box and put them into your album! Other than that, I wouldn't spend $25 on BU LMC if they were from after about 1975 ish.

Yeah, I'm cheap, so I'd probably look to complete a circulation set, which I am trying to do now. It's about 90% complete, and lots of fun doing. Most of it just from pocket change.

Circulation sets are fun, doable, and worthwhile.
I'd suggest trying gemmy set from dealer stock and mint sets. Most memorials, especially '68 to date, can be found in very nice condition by just looking at a few mint sets. Alternatively you might consider the registry coin wannabes. These are coins that got sent in for very high grades but missed. For five or ten dollars each you can put together a great set. It's cheaper than doing it from mint sets and the average grade will actually be higher. The only downside is that if you look at mint sets you'll probably find a few winners. There are no winners in slabs unless you pay up for them.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

If you aren't in a hurry, then consider plucking them out of circulation (rolls, change, etc.). You can find some really decent specimens. But if you are inclined, buying some/all might save some time and probably put you a click or two higher than roll searching.
Most my LMCs are circulation finds in AU+ but I tend to grade myself hard. Still acquiring the grading eye. Good luck!

CRH is the way to go for LMC. Go through enough boxes and you'll find some nice coins. For me, it's a lot more satisfying spending the time to pull coins from circulation for face value than buying them.

If circulated coins work for you then you'll probably have a whole lot more fun CRH than buying them off ebay.

Concur with all the wise advise so far suggesting to roll find these - you can indeed obtain all the circulation strike date/mm this way.

The beauty of collecting memorials is you can obtain all but a few coins in circulation. You might have to purchase a 1970s small date but other than that all are easily available. The entire set (minus proofs) can be purchased gem bu for $25-$35 on ebay.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll start with CRH, then move on from there. I am really not in a hurry. The idea about registry coin wannabes is really interesting too. Plucking a few here and there doesn't sound too expensive. Thanks for the great tips, thank you all!!

I'll go against the grain... Buy a complete set from ebay (or wherever). Use it to start your set then go searching for BETTER coins. Most of the BU memorial cents are MS63 and lower, if you get lucky and look hard, you can find 65 and higher in circulation to upgrade your set. Doing this will save you from going crazy because many issues will be difficult or impossible to find. Then, when you're searching, you can focus on looking for gems instead of dates and mints. It will make the inspection process go a lot faster. GOOD LUCK

Bad Thad has some good advice. I'd go one further. Find a set already in a Dansco. A lot of Dealers I know take out the keys and sell leftovers for a steep discount. When you figure in the cost of a Dansco, you can basically buy a gently used Dansco that comes with "Free" coins.

BadThad beat me to it. but then again, for something as plain-Jane as LMCs, I had no issue buying a nice BU set and upgrading the ones I thought I could do even better with.

In my first 4 boxes of pennies I completed 3 complete (P&D) sets of memorials. CRH is where it's at. I honestly thought about buying some cheap Whitman folders & making a few extra bucks off of people that are to lazy to CRH.

Quote: In my first 4 boxes of pennies I completed 3 complete (P&D) sets of memorials. In MS red? All 7 of the 1982 varieties? I've searched boxes for YEARS, in my area there would be no way to complete a BU memorial set from boxes.....I can tell you that from a lot of experience.

In the Northwest the Philly's are near non-existent. I feel like I win the lottery everytime I find one in any grade.
