I was wondering if anybody in the forum collects 5 and 10 cent pieces? I am just about to start and I am wondering which coins to look out for in particular. I know the 1985 and 1997 10c and the 1972 5c are worth collecting. Are there some others I should look out for?
Thanks, Ben

The five cent in 1972 was a lower mintage, so that will be hard to find in circulation. It's the only one I still need (apart from 2007) to finish my set. Good luck with your sets. Steve

I'm still amazed. Last weekend I was happily pouring through the bulk bins at my local shop, and pulled out a 72 five cent piece. It's not perfect, but it isn't in horrible condition either. I was so surprised I think I actually exclaimed outloud.

I'm just missing the 1972 and strangely the 1987 5c for my complete set. Think I may end up having to buy a 1972.
Only just started collecting 10c pieces... and 20c. Been collecting 50c commemorative for a while but unfortunately never bothered with COA in 50c, until now.
Not going to bother with $1 coins. Too many! Well, maybe just the circulation ones.

There are also a number of years in 10 cent pieces that have 'missing feathers'. Secret Squirrel has posted pictures on the aussie form, but that is currently down.
Since he posted those pictures, I have begun looking for some and have found about half a dozen of various years.

Learjet, I am avoiding the $1 coins to where I can. I don't mind finding 2001 offsets or 2000 mules though . I mainly search through 20c and 50c pieces to be honest. I am just starting the 10c search. Yass, I haven't heard of the missing feathers. Are there any pictures that can be put up of this forum. For some reason I can't make an account on the Aussie forum, not sure why. I will try again when it is working. Thanks everyone for the information and keep it coming. For some reason I have some 1972 5c pieces by accident. I haven't really searched for them but I have put 3 or 4 away with some others. Ben

I've got quite a few of the missing feather 10¢ pieces. The years they are known to occur in are: 76, 77, 79, 80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 89, 90, 91, 92, 93, 94, 97, 98, 99, 00, 04, 05, 06
They may also aoccur in other years, but the ones above I know about for sure.
I don't have any pictures, but maybe secretsquirrel will post his pictures here if he reads this.

How hard are 1985, 1991, 1997 10c pieces to come by? I have all circulation years except for these 3.

The 97 isn't too difficult to find if you get yourself a bulk lot of coins you should come across 1. The 85 and 91 are very tough to find in circulation. I also have an 85 without the tailfeather. 1972 5c sorry to annoy those still looking for 1 to complete a set but this coin has 2 distinct varieties with a high and low reverse. Sorry I cant find my pics of these at the moment. Also dont forget the 84 5c has 2 reverse varieties (small and large) in circulation and 2 in sets for 86.

Learjet, I've got a few spares of 91 & 97 10¢, so if you're only after coins from circulation, PM me your postal address & I'll send you one of each.

Thank you Nancy on your kind offer. I got a surprise when sorting through the last lot of 10 cent coins. This cute little Fiji 10 cent somehow slipped through. It doesn't look to have seen much circulation going by the good condition. I haven't seen a Fiji 10 cent before, and it's magnetic! Also picked up a New Zealand 10 and 20c. Have a few of these now. Almost be able to start a date set soon Lol.

With regard to starting a date set of New Zealand coins, I get heaps of 5 and 10 cent pieces everytime I get coins to sort through. It is definitely not hard to get a date set. I keep them all, cos I have absolutely no idea as to which ones I should keep. I have found a couple of nice Cuds on the NZ 5 cent pieces.

I've got about 2-3 kg of NZ coins, not many 1¢ & 2¢ or $1 & $2, mostly 20¢, approx ½kg of 10¢ & 5¢. Like Yass, I don't know which ones are worth keeping so I just keep the lot. Are there any Kiwi collectors out there that can give us the good oil on what NZ coins are collectible? Any info is better than none.

I think the Kiwis changed their coinages last year to a smaller kind so what you have now is pretty much extinct in New Zealand. I'm puzzled though, I'm not too sure why the 1972 5 cents is hard to find. I found the other years much harder. I'm actually not too sure what years weren't they released. Maybe I should really pick up a copy of Renniks soon. I have made a page here: http://www.gxseries.com/numis/austy..._decimal.htm
