Hey! Your me! Give back my identity! Just kidding. We need more information. How long do you plan on having the coin before you sell it?

I believe platinum Uncirculated Eagles, are the most overlooked modern coin. You could purchase a 1/4 eagle for just under $500.00.

A raw 1810 capped bust half dollar in AU-58 condition. You should be able to have a few bucks leftover after as well. :) Ben

Put your money in a bank savings account. Reasons: Guarantee profit, less chance of a monitary loss, less chance of no ability to sell them and primarily more coins out there for me. As noted exactly what is your expectations as to the future of such coins?

I would not buy any specific coin as an investment vehicle. There are far to many variables to make a "best" investment. With that in mind, I do consider my coins investments. However, part of their value is found in my enjoyment of viewing, finding and sorting them. My collection pays a great dividend in the form of personal enjoyment. With that said I would certainly be interested in what you time frame is. I have a few in mind that I think are somewhat under the "radar" in terms of popularity and would like to know what others here think.

With the price of gold right now this coin isn't going to be in the 3-500 dollar range

I have to agree with Gold Certificates. I've been touting the 1999 Silver Proof set for a while now. I don't think it's rare or even scarce, but when the 50 state coins are all out at the end of next year, I expect the market to be really hot. I'm not guaranteeing anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if the prices doubled on these sets. As far as long term investments go I would stick to key date coins in popular sets (Lincolns,Mercuries,Buffalos,Morgans, etc.). Little on no downside risk, high liquidity, and bragging rights all in one investment. (You should see my 3-leg buffalo!)

Keys to popular series should bring in a profit in the near future.

There is good investment for 500 bucks at face value I think. Boxs of half dollars from your bank. I buy them them and search for proofs , silvers in there. Buy one box search them and reroll and sell them back to bank . Buy an secord box over and over intill maybe someday your intire 500 box is full of silver coins, or proofs at face value that could be sold to any dealer at an profit. 500 dollar face worth of half dollars that are all 90% are worth 4500 junk silver or 40% silvers are worth about 2000 on 500 face. At same you buy an 30 dollar Dansco book and build you an set of 1964 thru 2007 Halfs using the best coins found out the boxs. Those sets complete with proofs are worth about 600 to 800 on ebay I learned. It may take you 20 boxes to build one set. I dont know buts its my project I am working on these days. 20 boxes sounds like an lot but its not if you keep turning the 500 first time investment back into fresh boxes each week. It may take 20 weeks to build it at one box per week. I dont know its an work in process I am working on. I think its beter than just spending 300 to 500 on one coin and then you stuck with coin and no fun building something. Have Fun Chevrolet454ss Sorry for long but I want add you can build set 1947 thru 1963 franklins circulated set from those Half boxes becides 64 thru 07 set. They have 35 coins per book. Worth about 150 to 200 per book of them when full.

Pending on where you live if Winter is coming and getting out in such weather is not your thing, you may want to try this. Go to as many banks as possible and accumulate pennies by the bag, box, rolls, etc. When you have amassed a few hundred dollars worth, spend the winter going through them. In the Spring, return the unwanted ones to the bank. Nothing lost and possibly lots to gain. Especially some nice relaxing time.
