From what I've read I think this is a weak strike error. I'm far from being a coin expert though and was hoping to get some opinions on the specific error type and possibly the value of the coin. Thanks!
to CCF fellow Michigander. I don't think it is an error. My thought is a Dryer Coin that has circulated for a long time or maybe a "pocket piece". Wait for a few more comments. John1
I agree with John1. It's not a mint error. The pattern of design weakness/absence and the puffy letters of MONTICELLO point to post-strike damage/alteration.
