Newbie here, so hello everybody!

From what I've read I think this is a weak strike error. I'm far from being a coin expert though and was hoping to get some opinions on the specific error type and possibly the value of the coin. Thanks!

to CCF fellow Michigander. I don't think it is an error. My thought is a Dryer Coin that has circulated for a long time or maybe a "pocket piece". Wait for a few more comments.

I agree with John1. It's not a mint error. The pattern of design weakness/absence and the puffy letters of MONTICELLO point to post-strike damage/alteration.

I've never heard of a " Dryer Coin" before but I Googled it and I think you guys are probably right. Thank you both for the replies.

So you're from Michigan John? It's hideously cold outside here today. I went outside around 7am and I thought my face was gonna freeze off. Stay warm!
Rest in Peace

I feel like I'm looking at an x-ray of a nickel. Thanks for posting...unusual and very cool.

Am I looking at a nickel where the softer material (i.e., the least compressed when pressed) was worn away leaving the "bones"?

No. The metal is the same and wears the same, only the high points wear first.
