I just got this month's gray sheet. The 1909 VDB has been going up like crazy every single month in all grades.

In case any of you have never browsed through CDN, if a price is up from the previous month there will be a + next to it, and a - if it went down.

So this month every single grade Good through MS-60 went down since the previous month. Grades MS-64 and higher are still continuing to increase.

Can anyone speculate as to why that is?

Maybe its because people heard about the 2009 pennies and are now rushing to complete their lincoln cents.

What I thought was strange, is that all of the sudden MS-60 and below went (down), but the higher grades still went up.

I agree with Gold Certificates. And with Lincoln Cent 100th birthday and also will the cent be facing more serious consideration of elimination therefore. I don't think the one cent will be eliminated in my lifetime. But who knows!

I figure that the coins 64 and higher have seen an increase in buyer activity while those in lower grades have seen a decline in buyer activity .

coins always have and always will be buyer driven .

Maybe people think that with the new 2009 penny, that now's the time to buy it and complete there sets. So, they're thinking that they might as well buy a higher grade example because those are the ones that are most likely to increase in value and become harder to find for a decent price around 2009. So with more people focusing on the higher grade examples, the demand for the lower grade examples went down.

Lincoln wreath cents have been on fire lately, so the first year of issue is just trying to keep up with the rest, I suppose.

Simply speculation, but they are not going to ever be any cheaper. I am grabbing every thing I can in the teens and in decent condition.

I got a 1909 VDB in change once. It was in the cash drawer and I bought it as I usually get all wheats I can find in circulation. It was later that I found it was a 1909 VDB. It looked like a 50's circulated coin. But it wasn't.

When they get dumped on ebay then I will be able to buy a reasonable grade at a fair price. I am not into Cents enough to want to pay speculation driven prices...I will wait for a few years.. But then I have boxes of wheaties just sitting around waiting for the market to improve enough to make it worth while selling so I guess I have double standards here. I want something for nothing and everything for my nothing....

I don't know, Nohope, I wish I would have bought a 09-S VDB 10 years ago and not waited. It sure does not look like it will ever backup.
