I recently bought the excellent 'Australian complete coin album' with spaces for most coins. It has a couple of strange notes I was wondering about. For the 2001 coat of arms 50c it says that there were 3,525,000 minted with an asterisk to say that "Although mintage figures have been released by the mint, these coins have not yet been sighted!" The same note appears for the 2001 kangaroo $1 (with 1,001,000 mintage figure) Does anyone know any more about this?

(arrgh! posted in the wrong forum. can this be moved?)

G'day,
*** forum Admin - please move this to -
- "Australian Decimal Coin Forum"

the 2001 50-cent CoA is not the same CoA as in other years from 1969 to 2006. Instead of filling the reverse with an "artistic" CoA, in 2001 we had a very conventional CoA - as seen on a passport - with large empty fields above and below. This was part of the "Centenary of Federation" series. There were ten different reverses on 50-cents that year. Some are a bit hard to come by. Of the ones I still find in circulation, the CoA is the most common to appear nowadays.

There were twelve reverses on the 20-cent in 2001:
ten in the Federation series, as for the 50-cent; Sir Donald BRADMAN; and the platypus.

There were two reverses on the $1 of 2001:
Centenary OF FEDERATION*
and INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF THE VOLUNTEER
The COF $1 is subject to die rotation errors, and some people have a lot of success picking them up, with rotations all the way around the clockface. I look, but I've never found one.
I may have to stand corrected, but I don't think there was a "MoR" $1 in 2001. A quick look at the RAM figures tends to support this view.
So, if you find any '01 'Roos, you'd better send 'em to me, before you get into trouble ...

There is no such thing as a 2001 roo $1
Confusion was caused by the mint using the description "standard design" in the reports so it was "assumed" that meant roos. The intent of the word standard was standard design for that year which is the Centenary of Federation $1. The Mint has actually stated since that no roo $1 coins were minted with the 2001 date.
Peter has explained the 50c well too.

It has been known that there are none of these coins in existence for a while hasn't it? I would have thought that the pricing books and folders would have reflected this by now (particularly the books). I only has McDonald's, are these listed in the Rennick's book as well?
