I came across this 1945 d Mercury dime and the reverse has some issues. not sure if it is PMD or not. thanks for your time!

Just looks like a lot of circulation wear to me. Is there any specific area you were looking at?

well to me it looked a bit like the obverse was transferred to the reverse. it's not in great detail but the rev shows a darker area pretty close to the outline of obv if it was transposed. almost like the obverse pushed through to the other side. *shrugs*

This looks like something called Progressive Indirect Design Transfer (PIDT). Repeated strikes can gradually transfer the outline of the central features onto the face of the opposite die over time. It's a sign of an old die.

Interesting! I would have pegged it just for regular wear and tear. SsDd, do you have any examples that show better, PIDT?
