Specimen Strike Is It Worth The Extra Premium?

It looks like PCGS uses the SP XX for satin coins. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-D-PRES...em4853ff5185 Some collectors like Satin coins ... Some want business strikes. Satin coins have a lower mintage, because they only come in Mint sets. And pretty much all satin coins are of higher grade Over business strike. So high grades spare common with satin coins. For my money, I can't see a premium (indeed, I'd expect them to be more common in high grade than Business Strikes), but everyone's tolerance differs. Report this Post to the Staff

A MS67 would be worth more than a SP67 Because a MS67, business strike would be much harder to find. Where a SP67 would be common. The reason being that fewer care to differentiate them from the business strikes. Similar with how coins with much lower mintages than the 1909-S VDB will sell for a lot less than the 1909-S VDB.
