Hi all - not much of a collector but had someone pass on a small collection and having trouble identifying one and figuring out what it's worth.

It's a 1928 Peace dollar and from what I've read I believe this has no mint specified, making it from Philadelphia... Can anyone tell me if that is right and an idea on value?

Thanks all!

I also think this is a 1923 instead of a 1928 as the last digit appears open.

Ah yes, thank you. Apologies for my lack of attention to detail.
Am I correct in this being a Philadelphia mint, and what would an approximate value be?

Thank you!

Its a Philadelphia 1923 Peace dollar. If it was from a mint other than Philadelphia there would be a mint mark on the reverse below ONE between the ray and the rim such as an S for San Francisco. The 1923 is very common and it has some dings in the rim. It's worth around $18-$20 to a collector. A dealer would buy this at 90% silver melt value which would be around $12.80 at silver at $16.55 per ounce as just checked.

Its too bad that its a 1923 and not a 1928 as for the 1928 is quite valuable due to low mintage and high demand for key date.

The coin has .77344 oz silver, worth $12.80. If dealer pays 90% it would be $11.52.
My dealer would probably pay more and I would expect more if sold on ebay.
