There is a 1916 D pcgs G4 on ebay, for which I was considering bidding. http://www.ebay.com/itm/22190833122...RK:MEBIDX:ITHowever, the seller has zero feedback, the back sticker looks funny and crinkled to me and the front sticker appears to have what looks like eraser marks on it. Am I being overly paranoid? Would you consider this legit since it is pcgs if I can get it for the right price? Thanks for any advice you have |

I think stay away. What is your max budget? I know several coin dealers selling at $600 for pcgs g4.

I'd say that if you're really interested then go for it. I know that dealing with a 'fresh' seller is sometimes risky, but the Merc being in a PCGS slab should help somewhat. Of course, there is never a full guarantee that any slabbed coin is labeled honestly, but right know this is the best option around.
Thankfully, my folder doesn't have a hole for the 1916-D Mercury, so it's not something that I will nibble at (for now). Also, don't feel that this coin is a 'steal' yet; it still has a couple days left for the competition to bid. I'm thinking it should end up around $878.00. Anyone else want to guess?

If it ended at $878, the person would have overpaid by about $250. As I said, some dealers I know sell G4 1916d mercs for about $575 - $600.

Hi, Thanks for the varied responses so far, I appreciate it greatly. rollhunter31- I do not have a specific max or budget in mind, although I am very specific it must be pcgs, not ngc or any other. I am looking to fill the spot with a minimum of G4, but it is a fully circulated set, so I am satisfied with a G4 or G6. Unfortunately, I have not seen any G4 in the $575-600 price range locally in coin shops or on ebay yet, but am open to online suggestions. |

Nice, uncleaned original surfaces and maybe a touch too much wear for a G4. I'd estimate this one at $700ish.

Kind of agree that it's borderline G-04 (though I think it makes it). My top would be around $650.

I don't like the MM on this coin. I know you can buy fake slabbed coins on (Not Allowed) so I'd keep looking just in case.

I have a better solution for you. Seems like you like gambling(the seller has 0 feedback). Take that money and go to a casino,put it all on black and hope for the best. That way you know you at least have a fifty percent chance of doubling up or not. I would stay far away from any seller with less then 50 feedback in a month. Especially if you are about to drop a couple hundred of dollars on a coin.

C'OME ON , this is not the advice that I would give a new member. crazyglue -;-most of us agree the coin in question is genuine. IMO the MM looks funky only because of all that good honest wear. ;PCGS slab, while not being 100% fool proof .you can take your chances on because their not that common to be fake. It's your call but I wouldn't lay down more than $625. |
