Being that my weekly box of halves from my local bank hasn't revealed any silver in over a month now, I began to keep any higher grade MS halves I found, so that I could look for varieties and errors on them at a later date.

To my surprise, I had unknowingly cherrypicked several different varieties including 4 - 1974-D DDO's, 2 -1971-D DDO's, a 1982-P no FG and a DDO you just don't see very often, the 1973-D DDO!

The 1973-D DDO FS-101(FS-014.8) has a total PCGS pop of a mere 24 coins, across ALL grades, with only 7 of them being graded MS!(Top Pop being a sole 66!).

Which is significantly less than the 1974-D DDO (FS-101), labeled as the only major doubled die of the entire series.
It has a PCGS total pop of 835 coins across all grades with 9 tied for top pop at 66.

In my opinion, the 1973-D DDO exhibits even more dramatic doubling with greater separation on TRUST than on the 1974-D DDO!(at least in earlier die states.)

Here are a few pics of the example I found.

The huge distracting scratch on the obverse is quite unfortunate, but other than that it's a nice coin!

I always liked that 1973-D. If I remember correctly, I was the one that got it into the CherryPickers' Guide way back when.

The 1974-D is actually much stronger in EDS than the 1973-D. But the 1973-D is many times rarer!
