I went to a coin show today and picked up some nice coins to fill some holes including a 1867 3 cent piece for $12, and an 1857 flying eagle for $5. The dealer also had 20 cent pieces for around $20 each which I think is too good to be true. I decided to hold off on one of them. I suspect that they might be fake due to the low asking price, how often, if at all, are they counterfeited?
I'd expect a $5 Flying Eagle cent to be pretty much a cull, either very heavily worn or damaged. What kind of shape was the one you purchased? Can you post a photo?
