I'm guessing maybe, judging by the "40" in 1940, lamination through the mint mark? PMD? I haven't seen this before so I would sure appreciate your input. Thanks.

looks like a lamination to me too. I posted a 1911s cent a few weeks back with the same looking 'crack' but going right across Lincoln's face... ouch!

A lamination or struck through scrap debris. It is also over part of the date as well.
