I received my "D" Monroe dollars in the mail yesterday. I ordered them from a dealer who sells on ebay.

February 14th was supposed to be the official release date so I headed to my local banks this morning trying to find the "P" dollars. I went to over 30 banks to include every different type of bank that I could find. NO MONROE DOLLARS.

Not one bank had them on order and only one bank had plans of ordering any Monroe Dollars. The one bank that will be ordering said that they would place the order in a week and should receive them in two weeks.

What is your experience on getting Monroe Dollars?

Most banks around me can't get rid of any of the baby sized dollars regardless of who is on them. So why should they order more of any of them for such a small amount of people interested.

That's what I predicted last year would happen . The banks that ordered the earlier president dollars couldn't get rid of them so they order fewer or none of the later ones and finally stop ordering any at all because they can't move the ones they already have. The result is it becomes harder and harder to find them in circulation and eventually the demand for them from the banks will drop enough that they will stop striking them for circulation and they will be for sale direct from the Mint only.

I've had the same experience as just carl. The only local bank that carry them is having trouble getting rid of what they have so they quit ordering them until the others are gone.

My bank only had ONE ROLL OF THE NEW QUARTERS !! THEY DIDN'T EVEN GET SENT A WHOLE "BOX" ? Oklahoma quarter is a purty one by the way ! And nothing yet on the Monroe dollar. After 2009, I won't collect the "rolls" anymore, just the singles for my books.......they're neat....don't care about the value now or future predictions of them. No harm in putting together the books !

Eaglefoot,
I am pretty sure they have to order box quantities to get freshly minted coins like the SQs. Could it have been a case where they were limiting customers to one roll each? I have seen banks do that since some people collect them by the roll and they want to ration them so all customers can get them if requested.

FINALLY !! Found a bank that has the new "P" Monroe Dollars. It was a Sun Trust bank and the lady said she had alot. I got two rolls. Nice 2008 P dollars.

My technique for finding the bank? I used my TomTom Navigation system. I viewed my POI (Point of Interest) for ATM/Bank and went to every bank that I could find today. Then I noticed that the POI had the telephone number listed. DUH...

A Sun Trust Bank said that they were due in today but hadn't arrived yet... So... I typed in Sun Trust and called every Sun Trust Branch starting with the closest. I found one that had the dollars about 15 miles away. Ahhh... Modern technology.

P Monroes or D Monroes? If purchased in a roll from a bank, is there a way to know P or D short of going home and opening the roll?

I didn't know there was difficulty with some banks getting rid of these dollars. I bought only one each of the 2007 dollars, thinking I couldn't be a piggy.

Sounds like y'all go to banks in addition to where you have your account(s) to purchase from them. Guess you don't need to be a customer.

I sure do have lots to learn.

I talked to a bank manager around me and he said that they had to order $15k from the Fed of the new dollars in order to get them. He said that his bank and another one are splitting them.
Rest in Peace

I was told last Tuesday that my bank would release the Monroe Dollars on Friday.

So, I'll head down there tomorrow and hope to be able to buy some.

Bobbi: The only time I've been asked if I had an account is when I cashed in halves. I rotate branches that I have an account with when I cash in rolls but use any bank when I ask for them.

BTW and OT: I make a sweep of banks when I look for Kennedy halves. I find more Kennedys when I ask for " Kennedy halves" then I do when I ask for "Kennedy Rolls". I've received 40% and 90%
silver directly from the teller as singles.

Can I assume that a roll of Monroe dollars, received from the bank on the first day they are available, neatly rolled by machine, are in mint condition? Or if not, can I assume they are in any other particular condition?

Many times when you open a brand new roll you'll see the marks from the roll machines. Some of those machines are worse than others and you may end up with a really messy pile of so called Uncirculated coins.
