I was out look at the US mint's site and was looking at the various medals and was wondering if there was much of a market for these items or are they mainly a curiousity?

Normally I blow right by them, but was curious and looked and wondered.

Not much of a market from what I have seen. They also don't produce anywhere near the number of medals they used to. the older mahogany brown finish medals they made back in the 19th century are a lot more desirable than the yellow brass ones ones they switched to around 1900.

I seldom gave medals much though, but I became a fan of the silver medals included in the recent presidential Coin and Chronicles sets. The 2014 FDR set also included a bronze medal and I wish they had done that with the four 2015 sets as well. If they had, I might have found myself adding more of the bronze medals to my collection; they seem affordable enough.
