I thought I read a thread on here that star notes always start with 99. I got a two with the number H 00894566 * Is it worth more than normal?

I have never heard about the 99 thing and if I had I could automatically tell them it was untrue because I have some here that have 4 0's in front of the numbers

Havn't heard about the 99 thing either. I think this best sums it up

quote:
When notes are discovered that have been printed incorrectly (such as having the serial numbers upside down, etc.) these misprinted notes (error notes) are replaced with star notes because no two bills can be produced with the same serial number. They are used to maintain a correct count of notes in a serial number run.

If I recall I think what you are referring to is the uncut sheets of notes. The serial numbers start with 99 on the uncut sheets. Or something to that effect. I thought I might have read it on here also. Don't know if this is correct or not. Just kinda remember something like that being said.

99 would be a high serial number. Uncut sheets might have them or might not. Check out the link and click on the 20, and 10 to enlarge you will see they are stars but do not start with 99. The fives start with 99 but they are not star notes

I think a uncut sheet would end in 99 instead of begin with 99.

Edit: when I say sheet I am referring to a full sheet which contains 100 bills and either the first bill or the last bill with have a serial number ending with 99 (not sure if its the first or last bill on the uncut sheet. Just like if you buy a brick of bills, they will be in sequence and either the top bill will end in 99 or the last bill will end in 99 because if the first one 00 the last will be 99 (which will make 100 notes) then the next brick will start with a serial number with 00 as the last 2 numbers and 99 as the last 2 numbers of the last bill in the brick. whether it be a brick of star notes or regular notes the same applies

The high serial # sheets are printed and then sold to a company that sells them to the public. If I am not mistaken anything 96******* and above are printed for collector consumption only. any in circulation of this number are hand cut by idiots who buy this item and then spend it. Not 100% on the veracity of this info just what I was told.

1964 S, this is a star note. The star is after the serial number. Graceoutcasts post explains why it's there. They become addiciting to collect.

Bank must sell money to you at face value. It's the law I was told.

2 zeroes is not considered low, 3 zeroes is considered uncommon and 4 is when it starts being of value. Star notes are more common with lower serials, all of mine begin with at least one zero.

And photoeric. that $10 bill is not altogether valuable. It only has a premium of $5-15, due primarily by the fact that it's very, very new.
