I saw in Coin World that there was going to be another show in my area this past weekend so I was very excited. Two in the same month... unusual to say the least. I noticed that this one was put on by a coin club... again, unusual since I did not know of any clubs in the area. I was pleasantly surprised to see a dozen or so large tables set up in the hotel conference rooms. There was a wide variety and I was in search of some type coins. I found a very nice 1829 bust half, an 1866 Shield nickel, a 1913 Buffalo, and an example of each Seated dime and Half Dime that I needed to complete those types. If that was not enough, I introduced myself to the president of the local coin club of which I will be becoming a member. He is also the owner of a brand new coin shop in the area. Too cool! There were several other members there that were dealers. The club has about 50 active members. I passed out some CCF business cards and hopefully encouraged some collectors to try us out.

Still excited about the great weekend.

Well that's great. Sounds at though you had just a super time and picked up some very nice coins, to boot.

Our annual coin show is scheduled for early April...and I'm saving my pennies to get some good stuff!

I'm so jealous. I have been unable to find any coin shows in my area. After much searching I don't believe there are any here...

Sure wish I was with you there. Around me we have at least 3 coin shows a month, every month. Occationally way to many at the same time. That is what happened to me last Sunday. More than one show at the same time. I went to my favorite one and was shocked at only about 1/3 the usual dealers and even less customers. I got there early as usual and for the first time noticed the parking lot was rather empty. Inside things got worse. Although a coin and currency show, usually only 1 of about 30 or 40 dealers with currency. This time only about 15 dealers and 3 with only currency. Then some tables also contained camcorders, fountain pens, arrow heads, miscellaneous jewlery and 2 tables of watches. Didn't leave much in the way of coins. The person I usually buy 2x2's from was sold out of them. I don't really like slabbed coins and about 75% or more of what coins were there were all slabbed. I spent more on gas going there than spending at the show.
More shows soon. Somewhere is April I've heard we have another massive big one coming up on top of the usual, standard, all the time shows.
Kind of great living in an area where we have coin shows, gun shows, knife shows, computer shows, camera shows, cat or dog shows and just about anything else imaginable. Museums, Aquariums, Planataiums, Zoos and on and on and on. Could never figure out why anyone would stay home.

Carl,

I wish we had more shows here in the western Virginia area. There are about 4 small shows a year within about an hours' drive. Then there is the big Dulles Coin & Currency expo later in April. That one is almost too big. Hopefully now that I will be joining the local coin club I will have more small events to attend. I know many of the members of the club are also dealers.

Thanks,

Jim

In areas of no or few coin shows I wonder why a bunch of coin collectors don't attempt to start their own coin shows. Maybe small at first but could possibly grow as more people hear of them.
