As an adjunct to another thread here on CCF, I'm starting a new thread here to widen the scope a little bit. Please consider posting your AD dated coins here from before 1599 AD or earlier. I'm sure there are some real gems out there! My intent is to make this a pretty inclusive thread, so I won't be too restrictive in the rules: 1. You must own the coin and post photos of your coin. 2. Coins need to be dated using the AD system. 3. The date must be 1599 AD or earlier. As a reminder, if your coin meets the more restrictive parameters set up in this thread: http://goccf.com/t/269713please consider posting it there. To get us started, here is a Schilling from the German City State of Pomerania-Wolgast. It is dated 1501 AD. The attribution is Saurma 4849.

The most easily obtainable English pre-1600 dated coins are the silver sixpences of Queen Elizabeth I. Here's one dated 1578:

This little coin had recently been posted on the third HFBCWG thread, and previously on the second and first threads... Archbishopric of Salzburg, Matthaus Lang von Wellenburg, 1521 uniface pfennig. 15 mm, silver. (No photos of the other side, sorry.) I have four other AD dated coins from 1501-1599 - they're dated 1517, 1532, 1555 and 1566. (I also have a coin from 1600.) I only have ready photos of the 1555, which I will probably post sometime this week. I hadn't seen the 1517 and 1532 coins for several weeks, so can't take photos of them right now; I'll try to make a photo of the 1566 coin, however. @Fuzzy317 - maybe you should post your 1499 coin in the other thread as well? I don't recall you posting there, and it fits the restrictions (being pre-1500).

I will not have anything to contribute, but this will be another fun thread to watch. I look forward to seeing coins from those who have been waiting forever to get past 1491 in the HFBCWG threads.

Where do I start. I probably have over 80% of the years in the 1500's,some with multiple mint marks (Hungarian Denars). This one is a 1594 K-B under King Rudolph II.

Quote: Where do I start. Yes good question. I decided to start with 1501 AD, but feel free to pick your own pathway on this thread. This has been a great bolus of coins so far and I hope that we get some more posts!
