I posted on this earlier this year but I could not find the thread. FYI I am working on an all graded (PCGS) 20th century type set. When I posted on this before I think you put it on the main coin forum. Someone asked if I should have put it on the modern us coin forum. I though Morgan's and Peace dollars were classic coin, but maybe I'm wrong. Anyhow, moderators please put this on the right forum. I'm tired and I can't think of where this should be. Enough rambling. I now have what I think is a complete set of 20th century type dollars. If I missed anything please let me know. I'm not doing gold, I can't afford it.

Either the Lafayette dollar (1900) or the Sacagawea dollar (2000) must also count as 20th century. As far as I know, all the 20th century gold dollars (except for the ultra-rare Sacagawea) are commemorative; IIRC they shouldn't cost that much, but I don't know how much precisely. I was also pretty sure that there must be other (modern) commemorative dollars as well, but I don't know enough to say exactly (and the sidebar only covers classic commemoratives).

that the 1900 Lafayette dollar should be included in a set of twentieth century dollars. Also, I'd go after any of the $1 silver commems, mostly to fatten up round out the collection a bit. P.S. Also, I got to thinking that you might want to get one of the 1999 SBA dollars since it was, like some Ikes, separated from the series and NCLT. Up to you though.

The one year only 1921 Peace should be included.

There are some great suggestions here. Unfortunately economics is going to be the greatest determining factor as to what is included in this set. With this in mind I think I will go with the fact that the year 1900 is part of the 19th century and the year 2000 is part of the 20th century and I'm going to add a nice graded 2000 Sacagawea dollar. Anything else, including the 1921 Peace dollar and any gold coin is simply more than I can afford. About $75 per coin is my max.

You could still nab a circ 21 Peace, but it would look a bit funky in an MS set.
