I'm thinking about putting together a birth year set, as it seems a lot of you guys talk about gathering yours and it strikes me as a pretty neat idea. I guess the silly question is: Is the ultimate goal to get unc or even proof of every coin minted for that year? Is there a particular way these should best be displayed? More than just 2x2s, is there a nice display type way to keep a set like that? Thanks team.

It's what YOU want to do. My first set was I put together was decades ago from circulated pocket change coins. I used a cheapie plastic snap together display case. Later on, I put together a nice uncirculated birth year set from a mint set I took apart. Now I also have a proof set. I really like the Capital case, it's air tight, screws together securely and won't fall apart like the cheap one that my circulated set still lives in.

Wixard Coin Supply has several types.

I have used these before when gifting sets.

I just googled "coin year set holder."

Yeah, that's the cheapie type I used at first. Here is the kind I use for my proof coins (I have the black one).

I guess I went to Birth Year Set, World Mode. For the last few years, I have been collecting coins of my birth year from all countries I can. It started as one from each country, but that changed fairly early. Some mint/proof sets are in their respective packaging/containers, and the other loose coins I have in 2x2 or 2.5x2.5 flips in a Dansco Album. Currently, I have 291 coins and 6 notes from 91 different countries, Links are in my signature.
