Since Lincoln has graced the cent for 100 years now, why not put somebody or something else on it? Does the same presidents have to remain on the same coins forever? Don't you think 100 years of being on a coin is enough tribute to any one man? Besides he's still on the $5 bill. What are your thoughts?

To add to this, who would you rather have on the penny?

Well not that I really want presidents on them, but what about about other presidents? I know there was talk about Reagan on the dime but what about a penny? It's like why do the same presidents get all the honor and glory for decades and or a century? I'm sure other presidents did great things too.

Lady Liberty! But since that is a HIGHLY unlikely choice, I wouldn't mind seeing a penny with bust of James Madison. He had a tough time as President, but his contributions to the nation are definitely noteworthy. Constitution, Bill of Rights, Federalist Papers, etc....wouldn't mind having him floating around in my pocket for the next 100 years :)

Lady Liberty is a most excellent choice. I would also entertain the idea of non presidential figures. I think this is going to be a fun and creative discussion!

My vote would be for Ron Paul, except he's still alive.

If I had to vote for a president it would be in this order:
1. Reagan
2. Wilson
3. Polk

But I can just see the government deciding to do away with the penny because right now they make it out of the cheapest material available and it still costs 2 cents to make a cent.

LOL it would be quite ironic having ROn Paul grace the penny--costs more than it is worth because of inflation...exactly what Paul is always complaining about! ahahah

I think Reagan would make a good choice as well. THough I do think it is do soon--I'm pretty sure he's too recent and it could create a pretty loud uproar from some of the Liberals in the nation. Especially if he replaced FDR....could you even imagine how mad people would get? lol there'd be rioting

What about William Henry Harrison? THink he deserves discussion?

I am just baffled as to why a president must be honored on a coin for all eternity. Not taking away from the current presidents that are on our coins but I feel they been honored enough and its time for something new.

On a serious note, maybe they could do some non presidential founding father's? Patrick Henry, Jon Hancock, and so on. People that help make this country, and the coinage we collect.

For as long as Lincoln has been on the cent, it's like he's an emperor or something. Just the longevity is so unreal.

Unfortunately the U.S. law states that only dead presidents are allowed to be on coins and not living ones. If we could have living ones, GWB is my pick. hah

lol that'll be the day....

yea nds....i would even say hes more like a god these days. I too think its enough with the Presidents--washington himself even said not to ever do it. Kind of insulting to his memory that we've got him on the dollar and the quarter. I would love Lady Liberty but I dont see it happening. I also dont like the idea of real people, living or dead, being on coins--too much like nobility or diviness you know?
