Here's a coin I picked up on ebay. First the whole obverse. This is the seller's pic, but do you notice anything about the date?

1942-D-Merc--What-Do-You-See?

Here I blow up the date area and compare to two certified 1942/1-D (first two) that have similar toning. In the seller's pic (bottom), I see something under the 4 and there's a projection next to the top curl of the 2 that appears consistently on the 42/1-D.

I find a lot of things by studying grainy coin pics--but this one's a big guess. If it turns out to be it, I'll post new pictures.

That's the seller's picture--just to make your call. If it turns out to be the 42/1, better pictures will come.

Is this another version of the 1942/41? Thought the 42/41 had the 1 full on left side of 2. If so, I gotta scope the roll of 42's again!

There are two overdates for 1942, one minted in Denver, the other in Philly:

1942/1-P:
1942-D-Merc--What-Do-You-See?

1942/1-D:
1942-D-Merc--What-Do-You-See?

Correct. The author's example would certainly appear to be the Denver mint version. Well done.

My fingers are crossed! It sure looks like it to me. Good luck!

Are you sure that isn't a stock photo?

Coin arrived--it's the same as in the seller pics, but not the 42/1--just a trick of lighting.

More like: "You win some, you lose more."

I know the feeling.
