I prefer the Presidential dollars though.

By the way.. for those of you in the New York metro area... metro north still gives sacs away in their ticket machines when you pay in cash and are due some change.

Yes the mint will make 2008 SAC dollars but they will not be entered into circulation. they are going to make them for collectors only but will still be business strike

This article explains it all

as long as there are obsessed collectors like just about everyone that would be reading this, the mint will continue to make dollar coins which they can sell for $1.50. =]

I have yet to this day to understand why anyone would buy rolls of coin or bags of coin from the mint when they can get them for face value at your bank by simply asking.

Well mvc. you can't get everything from the bank. Kennedy half dollars, and Sacagawea dollars are not minted for circulation, therefore only available at the mint. I also live east of the Mississippi river, making it difficult to get Denver mint coins.

I thought buying the coins from the mint was a ripoff at the premium they get....see how much those Kennedy's and Sac's cost now to fill those holes and compare that to 35.95 a roll for the dollars and 16.95 (I think) a roll for Kennedy's, a bargain today !

I am glad they are continuing with the Sacs

infiniteInterest..I live east of the Mississippi and live closer to Philadelphia than Denver and I get tons of D MM's and very little P MM's. Too Weird!
Rest in Peace

I read in an Australian national magazine today that the US mints are having trouble finding secure storage space for all the Sac's and Presidential dollars that they can't off load on the public. Apparently runs into the thousands of millions.
Stopping the issue of one dollar notes would be too simple. Worked in a lot of other countries
regards.

I like the Sac's.....but am quickly turning sour on the Pres. Dollars....too many of them minted and everybody will have them for the next 100 years ! Even and especially in Proof and Unciculated conditon.........that kind of ruins it if "everyone's got em".....and forever too !

It would be different if they had some kind of precious metals in them but they don't

True, I realized the error of my ways after I wrote it. Still, I buy rolls/boxes of UNC coin from my bank when I can get them (always with "D" mint) and offer them on ebay. And while I get buyers from the east coast, I still get a large number of buyers/bidders from the west coast buying "D" coin when I am sure they could walk down to their bank and get the same thing. I am sure there must be some reason they do though.

I still can't figure out how they got away with minting so few Sacs in 2007. According to the Presidential dollar bills that I read, 1/3 of the total dollars minted in 2007 were supposed to be Sacs. How come that didn't happen?

IMHO, they should either quite printing the dollar note, or mint the dollar coins for collectors only.
