I think the question is was it caused by someone adding a chemical to cause it or if this monster came out of the mint looking that way.. I'm guessing a chemical was used.. I have seen a couple of coins very similar to this and mine look like something has eaten away areas of the outer coin layer.. Report this Post to the Staff

Cookie, acetone will not remove a lamination that isn't already detached. Acetone does not react with metal, so it's safe for use on coins. Report this Post to the Staff

When I suggested a acetone soak, I am thinking most or all that substance will come off. As mentioned lamination will not come off with acetone .... but I do not think it is lamination.
