So everytime I go into Commerce Banks to dump my roll searches almost everytime I find something in the reject bin. I've see other people have the same experience at Commerce and with CoinStar machines.
So I thought I would start a thread of finds that were rejects. I have a bunch at home I'll add later, but here's what I got at lunch on a coin dump.
3 Netherland 5 cent (1964, 1972, 1982) 1 Netherland 25 cent (1977) 1 Panama 10 Centesimos (1996) 2 Spain 5 Ptas (both 1982) 1 Canada cent (1988) 1 SEPTA token (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority)

I'm with j-easy. I look every single time and have yet to find anything. I'll keep looking...maybe sometime I'll actually find something.

I check the reject bin of Coinstar everytime I pass one. So far, not a thing except a Lincoln Cent on the ground.

Just out of curiosity, what are coinstar machines? Never heard of them here in Oz.

Coinstar machines are coin counting machines found in a lot of supermarkets. You can redeem for cash, but they charge 8.9% if I remember correctly. I believe you can also get gift certificates for online stores without having to pay the fee.

I've tried this twice. Both times I've found a silver Roosevelt dime. I've also found a copule British coins (nothing interesting though).

When checking at commerce (not sure about coinstar) be sure to put your hand into the "reject tube", not just in the slot. There are TONS of coins stuck in that pipe! Silver quarters and Dimes as well as nearly all foreign coins are rejected by commerce and they are just waiting to be taken home. If you're "lucky" enough to fill a bag and need a teller to open the machine up you'll see dozens of coins in there. Ask for them--nearly everytime you get them free of charge

Gary -
Yes, there is always coins up there. The pipe they use always seems to catch stuff. And I always fill a bag as I only think a bag holds a box of nickels. Most of the time the teller has no problem handing anything then fell to me.

I haven't used one in a few years, but I believe there is a rectangle opening at about knee level where the rejects come out.

They have one of those in the grocery store in town here right by the door. Every time I go by that thing I make sure to check the reject slot but after I dunno how many years I have yet to find anything but one time my daughter was in front of me and, of course, she reaches right in and pulls out an old Mercury dime. Figures doesn't it

I have had a bit of luck with the coinstar machine at my local grocery store. I have mostly just found change that was bent out of shape, but I did once find a token for the "Cincinnati T-11 unit," though I'm not entirely sure what that would have been. Just out of curiosity, have any of you guys ever been met with hostility from store employees who see you reach into the reject bin? I once had a grocery store employee yell at me...
