found this a long time ago in a circulated bankroll of pennies. It was struck through thick grease as you can see.

Could it be a certain stage of a die cap?

I think it is john, a very late stage die cap strike through. Its got full rims and is uniformily distorted. I would think that a grease strike through would be evident on both sides if it were this severe.

Could be wrong, but the rim suggests not a capped die. It seems well developed for the most part. A capped die generally has a beveled appearance.

Struck Through Grease seems most likely. Thanks, Doug.

Thank you Halo1st! Probably a severe case of being Struck Through Grease. If it was a die cap, the whole coin and details would be mushy looking. :)
